Heaven is For Real: A Little Boy’s Astounding Story of His Trip to Heaven and Back by Todd Burpo and Lynn Vincent

Heaven is For Real: A Little Boy’s Astounding Story of His Trip to Heaven and Back shares the moving story of Colton Burpo’s journey to heaven and all that he saw while there. He tells of things that he saw happening on earth, and of meeting lost loved ones. Perhaps more interestingly, he tells of meeting Jesus.

_225_350_Book.519.coverAt first, I really was not sure what to expect, as I have always had a skeptical streak. In fact, over the years, I have not hidden the fact that, though I am (today) a born-again believer and the founding pastor of Living Hope Baptist Church, I was once (for many years) a devout skeptic, opposed to the idea that God exists, and vehemently opposed to the claims of the Bible. Then too, I have seen people try to counterfeit spiritual gifts for self-promotion. As a result, I approached this book with a mild but healthy skepticism. Many near death experiences have easily been explained as natural electrochemical processes. “How could this be different?” I thought.

Having read the book, I can say without reservation, that this is different. There were circumstances that occurred on earth that Colton recalled seeing from heaven that he could not otherwise have been privy to. The facts are clearly presented in a manner that allows for maximum inspection by all interested parties. The accounts are believable and heart-warming. As I don’t want to spoil the book, I will not share many details. However, I will share that my favorite portion of the book has to do with Colton’s father. In a very stressful time, Todd has to remind himself that we, as pastors, don’t have the luxury of publicly coming unglued.

I was blessed to be provided a copy to review (more on that below), but because it is such a powerful account, and one that I want to share, I have purchased a copy for that purpose. In other words, it is so good that I bought a copy after having read it. You should too.
